WORLD:  Israeli snobbism in choosing between Korea and Italy

Updated: 01/26 09:12

The army is expected to prefer Italian to Korean suppliers in its touted billion-dollar purchase of training fighter jets.

Both Italy and South Korea are offering to buy Israeli military hardware in excess of the billion dollars, so the deal is mainly about choosing a future partner. And though our government leans toward the Italians, the Koreans are much more important to us.

First, the South Koreans have access to the best intelligence and information on the North Korean nuclear program. Unlike Italy, South Korea has a dynamic economy and a strong army. We should therefore work much more closely with the Koreans than the Italians.

WORLD:  Israeli irony: Dweik arrested again on the same charges

Updated: 01/20 09:10

IDF arrested Hamas’ speaker of the Palestinian parliament Aziz Dweik. He spent two years in Israeli jail having been arrested in 2006 as a bargaining chip for Shalit release. This time, IDF showed no creativity in thinking up reasons for his detention: he was nabbed simply for association with a terrorist organization. Which of course he is, being a Hamas official.

Dweik was very active in Hebron area were Fatah enjoys very limited authority, and Israel arrested him as a favor to the Fatah which, in light of reconciliation efforts with Hamas, cannot arrest its leaders.

WORLD:  Revised peace treaty worse than war

Updated: 01/17 09:10

Egypt’s leading presidential candidate Amr Moussa vowed to modify the Camp David accords so as to deploy Egyptian troops in the Sinai and prevent Israel from buying gas from El Arish at whatever price.

We’ve ben telling for years that such evident move is inevitable and the West will do nothing, just as when Germany re-militarized Rhineland – because it’s a nation right to set its troops anywhere on its territory.

Re-militarization of the Sinai under peace treaty is worse than denouncing the peace treaty altogether. Absent of peace, Israel can strike Egyptian army installations within dangerous range of our borders, but peace shields the Egyptians from our reprisals, allowing them to set up SAM defenses along the border just as they did in 1972 under the ceasefire which Kissinger shoved down our throat.

WORLD:  Assassination of nuclear professor shows Iranian cowardice

Updated: 01/12 12:46

Yet another nuclear professor was killed in Iran, this time a department head at Natanz. Two years ago, another high-level scientist was killed similarly, reportedly by magnetic bomb attached to his car. It later transpired, though, that he was simply shot from a motorcycle.

Once again, the Iranians did not retaliate against Israel, which supports our view that the ayatollahs would not counter-attack after a strike on their nuclear facilities.

WEIRD:  Rabbi is guilty of rape? Why should we care?

Updated: 01/09 09:18

The media are now telling a new story about Rabbi Yaakov Deutsch of the town of Afula, whjo has been indicted on charges of rape. The rabbi purportedly sodomized underage girls.

The story is probably another lie, because the girls’ story does not hold up. But there is a more important issue here. When confronted with cases of blood libel against Jews, notably the Beilin affair, Zeev Zhabotinsky insisted that Jews should not beat drums defending the accused in the court of public opinion. His reasoning was that while Beilin might be innocent, some other Jews in other circumstances might be guilty. We are entitled to our fair share of scoundrels.

We can make a similar argument about rabbis. Yes, some of them can be criminals, but that does not reflect on the credibility of rabbis as a group. No one makes fuss when an atheist is charged with rape, and every atheist insists that morality is innate to man rather than rooted in religion. Thus, rape is abhorrent to religious Jews and atheists alike. So yes, a certain rabbi may prove to be a rapist, but that’s just like saying that a certain person is charged with rape; his rabbinical affiliation is irrelevant.

WORLD:  Danziger or Beinish: whose affairs are worse?

Updated: 01/05 09:35

Attorney General closed the case against the Supreme Court Judge Yoram Danziger for lack of guilt even though Lador insisted on closing for the lack of evidence, in which case Danziger would have had to step down from the Supreme Court.

Now, there is no doubt that Danziger was not snow white in the corruption scandal of Bat Yam mayor Lahiani. Certainly, a private attorney who worked for Lahiani for two years and pocketed more than $200,000 in fees plus various business deals, has something to do with the mayor’s corruption.

Indeed, it is hard to imagine any private attorney who was not involved in some form of corruption, especially an attorney working with high-profile white collar criminals. So either private attorney should be barred summarily from the Supreme Court practice as a suspicious crowd, or their real-world experience should be considered more important than their previous dirty affiliations.

On other hand, no private attorney has ever committed worse crimes against Israel than the Supreme Court president Dorit Beinish who routinely surrendered state security to leftist interests.

WORLD:  Wrong people bear responsibility for credit card fraud

Updated: 01/04 09:08

After hackers posted massive amount of Israeli credit card data online, the Bank of Israel promised that the account holders won’t pay for theft.

That’s for sure. The problem is, who would pay? Two answers are probable: foreign merchants to accepted the cards in online transactions, or Israeli government. Both options are highly unethical because they let the real culprits avoid responsibility. It was the coupon companies which maintained buggy websites to collect credit card data.

Even though the hackers are not probably Saudis, but more likely Turks, Muslims are unknown for any achievements in computer security. Most certainly, they exploited a standard vulnerability. The coupon companies are guilty, then, of gross negligence, and the government must go after them.

WORLD:  Knesset works on politically correct way to emulate Rabbi Kahane

Updated: 01/03 09:12

Back in the 1980s, when the state was battling Rabbi Meir Kahane, the president of the Knesset was granted legal power to prevent voting on any bill he might consider racist.

Since then, “those who have served in the IDF or the National Service” has become an acceptable euphemism for “Jews.” So MK Ben-Ari has fielded a bill which would bar those who did not serve from judicial positions. Theoretically, the bill targets not only Arabs, but also haredim, but they refuse state offices anyway.

In response, Arab MK Tibi fielded an alternative bill barring from judicial positions those who live “in a place that violates international law,” i.e., settlers.

Curiously, the Knesset’s legal advisor approved both bills as technically non-racist, though on numerous occasions the Attorney General has banned such euphemisms, including attempts by Jewish employers to limit job offers to IDF servicemen.

Jewish religious law plainly prohibits any non-Jew from occupying any position of authority in the Land of Israel, including judges, of course.

WORLD:  Leftists will demonstrate in front of a haredi school

Updated: 12/28 09:05

Israeli leftists broke another taboo by staging an ‘anti-segregation’ demonstration near a haredi school in Beit Shemesh. Obviously, such gatherings harm the children, but they are of no concern to ultra-leftists.

Of course gender segregation and extreme modesty are not required by Torah Judaism, but the haredim live compactly in Beit Shemesh, and if they want to set such rules for themselves and their children, that is entirely up to them, and there is nothing antisocial about that.

With the Iranian threat looming, the Muslim Brotherhood taking over country after country, and our government surrendering the state to Arabs and Africans, the ultra-leftists have nothing more important to do than to bug religious Jews.

WORLD:  Israel attacks Egyptian territory

Updated: 12/27 09:07

Halaib triangle

According to Sudanese media, IAF carried out a strike against weapons smugglers in the Halaib triangle of Sudan. Which would be no news at all, since such strikes happen routinely, if not for the diplomatic aspect. It happens that Egypt considers Halaib its own territory. Thus, as viewed from Cairo, Israel attacked Egyptian territory, but the Egyptians kept quiet about it.

Thus it is not unthinkable to carry out operations in the Sinai.
